Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is a landscape park, the village of Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire ( England surrounds). Today's park is just a remnant of the much larger forest that is associated with the legendary figure Robin Hood . A large number of very old and mighty oaks grow in the forest, the most important and largest of which is called Major Oak and is considered Robin Hood's headquarters in local chronicles.

The Major Oak (after the writer and archaeologist Major Hayman Rooke ) is between 800 and 1000 years old. Since the Victorian era, some of the branches have been supported by a sophisticated scaffolding system. It is said that Robin Hood and his companions hid in the tree and that this oak was Robin Hood's favorite tree. In February 1998, a local company pruned the tree and started growing saplings to be planted in major cities around the world. In 2003, 300 Major Oak acorn saplings were planted in Dorset , from which a small forest will grow, also for research purposes.
