history

The founder is Piet Derksen. He owned a chain of sports shops (Sporthuis Centrum) before opening the first park in 1968 with the motto “nature you can touch”. Even then, the concept of the bungalows integrated into nature was developed. The first park was expanded to include the water park in 1971. In 1978 Piet Derksen sold his sports shops in order to concentrate entirely on the holiday parks. 1986 Sporthuis Centrum with the opening of the settlement Het Heijderbos in Center Parcs renamed. The chain has grown to over 20 parks to date. The last big step was the takeover of the holiday parks of the Gran Dorado chain, which were fully integrated into the Center Parcs offer. In December 2003, the Nordsee Tropen Parc holiday park in Tossens was bought by Eurohypo AG and integrated into the chain under the name Butjadinger Coast (today: Park North Sea Coast ).

Categories

At the beginning of 2004 the parks were divided into three categories, the original parks under the name Center Parcs Original , the former Gran Dorado parks inland under the name Free Life from Center Parcs and the taken over parks on the coast under the name Sea Spirit from Center Parcs .

The parks were divided into three quality levels by the operator: Parks rated with 4 birdies offer more variety, relaxation and an extended range of sports with tennis , squash , volleyball and mini golf . Parks with 5 birdies have the largest offer, in parks of this category the prices are also the highest.

With the VIP equipment, fresh bread rolls are delivered in the morning, and there is a sauna (Finnish or infrared) and a whirlpool in the bathroom, and the VIP accommodations are usually a little more spacious than the Premium and Comfort. In the past, there was also a free daily newspaper, but it has to be paid for extra in the meantime. In some parks there are special bungalows for children (with a play corner and with extra bright colors).
