Westerhoven is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant . It belongs to the municipality of Bergeijk and is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Eindhoven . The place currently has 1920 inhabitants.
history
More than 10,000 years old star tools were found in the area around Westerhoven, indicating that the region was inhabited from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages.
In 1331 Duke Johann III. von Brabant gave the inhabitants of Westerhoven the agricultural use of the heather . Emperor Charles V confirmed this right in 1544. Until the end of the 18th century, the heather was used by the villagers.
Before 1468 Westerhoven was subject to the town council of Eersel , whose members were appointed by the Duke of Brabant. Thereafter, Charles the Bold granted free councilors to Bergeijk and Westerhoven was now administratively assigned to the Bergeijk council, along with other villages.
From 1810 to January 1, 1997, Westerhoven was an independent municipality, after which it became part of the Bergeijk municipality together with the villages of Riethoven and Luyksgestel. At the time of the merger, the municipality of Westerhoven had 1,822 inhabitants.
