geography

Bosen-Eckelhausen is part of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park in northern Saarland. The Bostalsee is located within the 1,050 ha (Bosen) or 300 ha (Eckelhausen) district, which, with around 120 ha, is one of the largest artificial bodies of water in southwest Germany.

history

The first documentary mention of the place as "Busena" comes from the year 978. From 1817 to 1937 Eckelhausen belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld .

As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the two previously independent municipalities Bosen and Eckelhausen were assigned to the municipality of Nohfelden on January 1, 1974, together with eleven other municipalities .

Tourism and economy

The Bostalsee , which was dammed up in 1979, is today a nationally known tourist center that attracts numerous visitors every season. On the north shore of the lake there is a cultural center in the Bosener Mühle , which served as a flour mill for the area until 1930 . In the immediate vicinity there is a campsite with a total area of 14 hectares, and there are several restaurants in Bosen. Since summer 2013 there has been a Center Parc on the shores of the Bosttalsee .

At the feeder to the A 62 outside Eckelhausen there is an industrial area where several companies from the wood and metal processing industry are based.

religion

The first written mention of a church in Bosen can be found in a deed of donation from Bishop Wigfried von Verdun to the St. Paul monastery in Verdun from 972. In 1561 the Lutheran denomination was introduced in Bosen . At the same time, Bosen lost its parish independence when it was merged with Sötern , a few kilometers to the north, to form a common parish. The church in Bosen was probably used by Catholics until the late 18th century , before it was assigned to the Catholic parish of St. Martin von Tours in Neunkirchen / Nahe .

In 1914 the old nave was demolished while the 15th century tower was retained. In the years 1914 to 1917, the building was made of the present church building after plans of from Bielefeld - Schildesche coming architect Karl Siebold . This new building is a centralizing cross hall in neo-renaissance forms of abstraction historicism .

  • former Bosen Jewish community

From the 18th century to 1942 there was a Jewish community in Bosen. On April 23, 1942, the last Jewish residents were deported to extermination camps. The former synagogue was sold to private individuals by the Saarbrücken synagogue community in 1949 and converted into a residential building. On November 19, 2012 in the Bostalstr. 32 four stumbling blocks laid, reminiscent of the Lion family.
