The Evangelical Church Bosen is a church of the Protestant parish Sötern / Bosen in Bosen-Eckelhausen , a district of the Saarland community Nohfelden , St. Wendel district . The parish is assigned to the parish of Obere Nahe of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

In a deed of donation from Bishop Wigfried von Verdun to the St. Paul monastery in Verdun from the year 972, there is the first written mention of a church in Bosen, which according to this source was dedicated to the Virgin and Mother of God Mary . A later source, dating from 1330, names St. Willibrord as the church patron . In 1561 , the Lutheran denomination was introduced in Bosen, which belonged to the von Hunolstein rulership . At the same time, Bosen lost its parish independence when it was merged with Sötern , a few kilometers to the north, to form a common parish.

The church in Bosen was probably used by Catholics until the late 18th century , before it was assigned to the Catholic parish of St. Martin von Tours in Neunkirchen / Nahe , whose classical church was built in the years 1828–1829 instead of a Romanesque predecessor was.

Until 1918, Bosen belonged to the Principality of Birkenfeld (part of the Birkenfeld region after 1918), an exclave on the left bank of the Rhine of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg and the Free State of Oldenburg .

architecture

In 1914 the old nave was demolished while the 15th century tower was retained. In the years 1914 to 1917, the building was made of the present church building after plans of from Bielefeld - Schildesche coming architect Karl Siebold . This new building is a centralizing cross hall in neo-renaissance forms of abstraction historicism . The extension was built as a hall with an expansive, wide transept, a west gallery and a smoothly closing choir. The east wall opens into a round window and two tall rectangular windows. In the western part of the building, the church windows are almost square and arranged in two rows one above the other in order to illuminate the gallery with sufficient daylight. In the transverse hall, architect Siebold combined the tall rectangular windows with blind arches on the upper lintel to form a group of three and had each one flanked by a single, also tall rectangular window. The saddle roof of the church continues over the choir area as a mansard hipped roof.

The church crossing is expanded spatially by a gallery, transept and choir. Although the building decoration is largely missing on the church building, the window shapes indicate decorative forms of the Renaissance .

Furnishing

The furnishings of the church include a valuable altar Bible that the church received as a gift from the Grand Duke of Oldenburg .
