Nohfelden / Nahe is a district and namesake of the municipality of Nohfelden in northern Saarland . The place has about 1100 inhabitants (as of January 2012) and is 355  m above sea level. NN high on the B 41 and the Saarbrücken – Frankfurt am Main railway line . Nohfelden is only the third largest district, but it is still the seat of the municipal administration. In Nohfelden the Freisbach flows into the Nahe , which can be considered as the namesake of the place.

history

The remains of a ring wall on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate indicate that the place was of prehistoric importance even before the castle was founded. In connection with the construction of the castle, the name Nauelden appears in 1286 , whereby the "u" should represent a prescription and must be read as "v". According to the client Wilhelm Bossel II vom Stein, the place already existed at that time.

Nohfelden experienced its first economic boom around 1600, when a copper and lead smelter was built under Duke Wolfgang von Pfalz-Zweibrücken . The copper ores required were mined in Mosberg , Walhausen and Wolfersweiler .

From 1817 to 1937 Nohfelden belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld . The place was the official place of the office and mayor's office in Nohfelden.

Attractions

In 1726 Christian Ludwig Hautt was born in the village as the son of an official cellar. Hautt later became a ducal architect. He was responsible for numerous baroque buildings in Zweibrücken , Blieskastel and in Alsace . The palace on the Karlsberg near Homburg , built after his Versailles model, was also his work. Master builder Hautt died penniless in Zweibrücken in 1806.
