geography

Eiweiler, whose name probably goes back to the word oak , lies at an altitude of 390 above sea level on the southern edge of the Peterberg . The Eiweilerbach runs south-west through the village, which merges with the Borsbach coming from the left to the Imsbach or, according to another view, flows into the Borsbach; the receiving water, however named, then flows into the Prims . All other districts of Nohfeldens belong to the Nahe river basin .

history

A Roman road runs north of Eiweiler, which indicates early settlement of the area. The first documentary mention comes from 1218 - Iwilre is listed here as the property of Simon von Montclair. A written certificate from 1308 shows the name Eywilre. The church and parish were mentioned in 1330 in the rural chapter of Merzig , which belonged to the Archdiocese of Trier. From 1375 Eiweiler belonged to the Schwarzenberg lordship and later to Dagstuhl . In 1817 it was added to the Principality of Birkenfeld in order to fill the desired number of 20,000 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1974, Eiweiler was incorporated into the community of Nohfelden.

traffic

For a long time the place was very isolated; It was not until 1886 that a path was laid across the watershed between Nahe and Prims , and it was not until almost a hundred years later that this path was converted into a driveway. Before this change, Eiweiler could only be reached from Primstal .
