Makahaʻa (also: Makkahaa , Makaha ) is a small island in the north of Tongatapu in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga .

geography

The Motu is located off the north coast of the main island of Tongatapu, along with Pangaimotu , Manima and Monuafe . The island lies in a second reef rim at the west end of the Piha Passage (Astrolabe Channel). In the west there are the reefs Alert Shoal and Ualanga Lalo Reef . To the south of the island is Cresswell Rock and to the north is the next island, Fafa .

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Tongatapu group, Makaha'a is occasionally hit by cyclones .
