Makanza or Mankanza is a locality, capital of the Makanza Territory , in the Equateur Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
geography
It is located on the left bank of the Congo and is served by the RP309 road northeast of the provincial capital Mbandaka .
history
The village was named Bangala Station and at the beginning of the 20th century New Antwerp or Nieuw Antwerp . Makanza is halfway between Kinshasa and Kisangani and was a European trading post as early as the 1890s and one of the most important stages of the expedition to save Emin Pasha .
