Makgeolli , Makuly (takju) is a naturally cloudy alcoholic drink from Korea with an alcohol content of about 6–7 % by volume . It is made from rice with the addition of water, nuruk (wheat or rice with Aspergillus oryzae cultures) and yeast , is only roughly filtered and therefore milky white and has a mild, slightly sour taste. Variants with additional ingredients such as corn or lettuce chrysanthemum are often offered.

A certification system for Makgeolli has been in place in South Korea since August 5th, 2010.
