Maktabat al-Himma
Maktabat al-Himma ( Arabic مكتبة الهمة, DMG maktabat al-himma 'The literature of high aspirations') is a publisher of the IS organization , which publishes short brochures of two to eight pages in Arabic .
According to an article for the NATO Association of Canada , all publications serve to legitimize the IS organization primarily vis-à-vis the local population. In principle, every brochure is posted online, but only 8% of all Iraqis have internet access, while 77% are alphabets. This number can also be found in official UNICEF statistics. In terms of content, the publications therefore primarily deal with IS policy and its alleged connection to God and the Islamic religion. Often Islamic State and Allah are used as synonyms, which implements that all actions of the IS organization are willed by God.
Contents of the brochures
Call for an oath of allegiance to Baghdadī
An important work was " Stretch out your hands in the oath of allegiance to Baghdadī " ( muddū al-ayādī li-baʿyat al-Baġdādī ) by IS chief ideologist Turkī al-Binʿalī . A version of the text was also translated into German by Al-Ghuraba 'Media . It was intended to present the advantages of Baghdadī to a broad readership. First his ancestry is described, then his training as an Islamic legal scholar, his work as a mujāhid and his right to rule. At the end the reader is asked to swear allegiance to Baghdadī. This is also interpreted as a sign of resistance against the "unbelievers".
Information and identity for "citizens"
People who live in territory controlled by the IS organization should be informed about their rights and obligations through the brochures. In addition, an attempt is also made to create an identity by dividing the world into Umma and its enemies or into believers and unbelievers. Sharia and thus the will of God would rule within the territory . However, there is no room for non- Sunni groups such as Druzen and Alawites . On the contrary, they have to be killed. Otherwise every Sunni, no matter from which part of the world, is welcome. However, everyone's duty is to jihad against the " crusaders " and their allies. These are the reason for the "tragedy of the ummah" and must therefore be fought on the way to paradise on earth. Through this argument, the IS organization creates a sense of hatred and revenge. On the other hand, people should only show sympathy and support for the IS organization.
