Makwa is a village ( Village ) in the town of Loon Lake No. 561 in Saskatchewan. The Highway 304 is the main access and runs through the town. The Makwa River Outfitters district northeast of the village is a well-known hunting area in the region.

The name Makwa comes from the Cree language and translates as "bird of happiness" . The site is 40 km west of Meadow Lake at an altitude of 497 m above sea level. The main source of income is the cultivation of grain and cattle breeding. Makwa Lake, together with Upper Makwa Lake and Jumbo Lake, form a well-known and popular resort center.

In the center is the Makwa Post Office and the St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church. In the area around the place are numerous parks, u. a. Makwa Lake Provincial Park, Meadow Lake Provincial Park, and Steele Narrows Provincial Park.

Demographics

According to the 2001 census, the population of Makwa was 101. According to the 2006 census, that number fell by 4.95% to 96 people. In 2016, the number of people living in the village was around 84.
