Mal Hatun

Mal Hatun († 1323 ?; Also Malhun Hatun , Mala Hatun , Mâl Hatun or Bala Hatun ) was the wife of Osman I , the founder of the Ottoman Empire . She was the mother of the next Ottoman ruler Orhan I.

Mal Hatun is often described as the daughter of Sheikh Edebali, the head of the Vefaiyye Order, while Orhan Gazi's foundation charter (Vakfiye) of 1324 lists her as the daughter of Ömer Bey.

Representation in the literature

Mal Hatun is portrayed in the novel Malchatun by Johannes Tralow as a clever, self-confident and influential person.
