features

Pristolepis marginata has a high-backed, laterally strongly flattened body and reaches a length of 15 cm. The body and fins are greenish, in the dorsal fin the membrane between the fin rays is orange. A blackish band can often be seen on the soft-radiated sections of the dorsal and anal fin. The caudal fin base is black. The preopercular is lightly serrated with 18 teeth, as are interoperculars and suboperculars at their junction. In addition, the gill cover has two equally long spines. The rear nostrils are round and close to the eyes, the front ends in short tubes and lie in the middle between the eyes and the upper lip. The mouth is slightly upwards. The scales are relatively large; small scales are found on the chest and at the base of the soft-radiated sections of the dorsal and anal fin. Particularly thin scales surround the bases of the dorsal, anal and caudal fin rays.
