Malachias Siebenhaar (born March 6, 1616 in Kreibitz , Bohemia, † January 6, 1685 in Magdeburg ) was a German composer of Bohemian origin.

Life

Siebenhaar studied at the University of Wittenberg between 1637 and 1641 . There he made friends with Philipp von Zesen , with whom he later collaborated in many artistic ways. After completing his studies, Siebenhaar worked for a short time as a cantor in Tangermünde .

Between 1644 and 1651 Siebenhaar had a job as music director and cantor at the city school in Magdeburg . Then he took over the parish of Nischwitz (Thallwitz) at his own request . In 1655 he was promoted to second preacher at the Ulrichskirche in Magdeburg.

Siebenhaar composed numerous motets and Zesen included many of his compositions in his song collection. On cooperation with Zesen Siebenhaar came along with many other writers and artists and was also a member of the established by this Sprachgesellschaft The German-minded cooperative .
