Malagueño is a city in the province of Cordoba in central Argentina . It is located immediately west of the provincial capital Córdoba and extends along the motorway to Villa Carlos Paz . The city has 9,364 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) and is divided into four districts. The districts run in a loosely built chain a total of 14 kilometers along the motorway.

Although the city had only relatively slow growth until 2001, despite its strategically extremely favorable position on the motorway due to the decline of some industries, it is currently experiencing a strong upswing, as several large closed residential complexes are being built in the area. According to the newspaper La Voz del Interior, this could triple its population by 2015.

structure

Malagueño is divided into the following districts (from east to west):

  • Barrio Gilbert , also known as Barrio 1 ° de Mayo , located directly on the city limits of Córdoba on the Córdoba-Villa Carlos Paz motorway, with 1,142 inhabitants
  • the actual Malagueño , seven kilometers further south-west, three kilometers south of the motorway with 6,404 inhabitants (including the districts IPV and Montevideo )
  • Yocsina , three kilometers north of the center, directly on the highway, with 1,336 inhabitants
  • San Nicolás , also directly on the highway, but eight kilometers west of Yocsina, only five kilometers east of Villa Carlos Paz, with 756 inhabitants

Culture and sights

Malagueño still has several old buildings from the 19th century in the center. The landmark of the place are three obelisks that stand on a roundabout at the entrance to the center. The church, built in 1946, has become increasingly popular as a location for closing celebrity weddings since the late 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

One of the largest gravel works in the Cordoba area is located in Yocsina.

As a special feature in traffic, Malagueño was already connected to Córdoba by a suburban train at the beginning of the 20th century. The railway line still exists today, but is only used by freight traffic.

The Teófilo Tabanera space center is just south of the town .
