Malamatina is the name of a Greek winery and that of their most important product, Retsina Malamatina (Ρετσίνα Μαλαματίνα), a white Retsina wine .

Cultivation and distribution

The resinated wine is mainly produced in the Euboea growing region from the Roditis and Savatiano grape varieties . The wine is named after the company founder Konstantinos Malamatinas. It is sold and produced by one of the oldest wineries in Greece, E. Malamatina AE in Thessaloniki . It has an alcohol content of 11 percent by volume and is available in 0.25 and 0.5 liter bottles with a crown cap.

history

Konstantinos Malamatinas founded a winery in Alexandroupoli in north-east Greece in 1922 and immediately produced the retsina, which is now sold worldwide. The yellow-green label and the now common crown cap of the wine bottle shows a key boy drinking wine , whose belly is unlocked by a key. Malamatina is the most famous Retsina brand in Greece.

According to its own information, the company's turnover in 2006 was a good 28 million euros with a net profit of around 6 million euros. In Greece, wine has a total market share of around 10%.
