Roditis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roditis is the second most widely grown white wine variety in Greece . It is often blended with the Savatiano variety to make retsina . It is also called Rhoditis, Roidites, Rogdites or Alepou and is grown especially in the Peloponnese .

The world-famous Retsina Malamatina comes from the northeastern Greek growing area of this grape variety .

The grapes of this variety ripen late, despite the warm climate that this variety, which is sensitive to fungal diseases, needs. But they still retain enough acid , which is rare in warm climates. It has a pronounced fruity note, especially of citrus fruits and almonds.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy cobwebs with a very light reddish tinge. The young leaves are hairy on the upper side of the leaf and have a slightly bronze-colored shine.
  • The large leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are usually three-lobed (less often five-lobed) and medium-thick. The stem bay is U-shaped, open to closed. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide in comparison to the grape varieties.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is medium to large in size and moderately dense. The berries are medium in size and the color tends to be a faint rosé. The berries are not too thick-skinned and juicy; the juice is colorless. The light aroma of the berry is very characteristic.

The grape variety sprouts relatively late.

Roditis is susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew . The yields of the fertile variety are satisfactorily high despite its susceptibility and reach 120 hectoliters / hectare even on moderately fertile soils. Roditis tends to trickle down on fertile soils .

Roditis ripens around 35 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late.
