Malcolm Penny

Malcolm Penny is a British zoologist and non-fiction author best known for his ornithological fieldwork in Aldabra and the Seychelles .

Life

In 1964, Penny graduated from the University of Bristol in Zoology . From 1964 to 1965 he led the University of Bristol's Seychelles expedition in the Indian Ocean, visited Aldabra and worked on Cousin Island . Due to Penny's efforts, the International Council for Bird Preservation bought this island in 1968 and placed it under strict conservation. Back in England, Penny became a conservationist with the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust . He made further trips to Africa, India and the Arctic. In 1968, together with Constantine Walter Benson , he published the first scientific description of the now extinct Aldabrabush singer ( Nesillas aldabrana ), who was discovered in December 1967 during an Aldabra expedition of the Royal Society . Since 1994 he has worked as a freelance writer for television companies such as the BBC, ZDF and ORF. Penny has published over 65 books, including works that have appeared in the Discovering Nature and Animal Kingdom series. He has also contributed to international journals, including Wildlife by Nigel Sitwell and Sea Frontiers .
