Malden Center is a breakpoint in Malden in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . The station provides access to the Orange Line of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) as well as to trains of the MBTA Commuter Rail on the Boston – Wilmington Junction line .
history
The station opened on December 27, 1975 as part of the northern extension of the Orange Line, which replaced the Charlestown Elevated . The Boston Elevated Railway had long wanted to connect the city of Malden to the Orange Line network, but the residents were against the construction of an additional elevated line. Therefore, the new rail routes were led along the existing railway line to Haverhill.
