Malene Schwartz (born August 10, 1936 in Frederiksberg , Denmark ) is a Danish actress .

Life

Malene Schwartz is the daughter of the painter and art critic Walter Schwartz . She attended Skt. Jørgens Gymnasium in her hometown and originally wanted to become a social worker. She only played theater in school and it was finally the actor Arne Weel who met her through this and encouraged her to become an actress. After a private acting education, she had her first theater engagement at the Betty Nansen Teatret in 1957 at the age of 19. After an interlude at the Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen, she was also engaged at the Det Kongelige Teater for nine years . She has also appeared on the stages of Nørrebro Teater, ABC Teatret, Cirkusrevyen and Tivolirevyen. As theater director, she was responsible for the Folketeatret from 2005 to 2007 .

Since the mid-1950s, Schwartz appeared regularly in Danish film. She starred in films such as Girls for certain hours , Into Pleasure and The Duel . In comedic roles she was at the side of the comedian Dirch Passer in films such as Pack the Playboy in the closet and Dress up to see Countess . However, she had her greatest success with the lead role of Maude Varnæs in the television series Matador produced by Danmarks Radio .

In 1992 she was awarded the Dannebrogden for her acting achievements.

Schwartz was married twice in her life. After her first marriage from 1961 to 1979 to the lawyer Christian Lillelund, she was married to the writer and journalist Paul Hammerich from 1982 until his death in 1992 .
