Painter of the Mourners in the Vatican
The painter of the mourners in the Vatican (English "Painter of the Vatican Mourner") is an Attic vase painter of the black-figure style . He was in the middle of the 6th century BC. Active and is close to the E-Gruppe .
The painter of the mourners in the Vatican was given a makeshift name , as his real name has not been passed down. His name vase is in the Vatican Museums and shows a grieving woman standing in front of the naked corpse of a man bedded on straw. The interpretation is controversial: possibly Eos and Memnon , but Europe and Sarpedon or Oinone and Paris have also been suggested . John Boardman describes him as a thoughtful but sometimes imprecise artist.
