Vatican Painter 309
The Vatican Painter 309 was an Attic vase painter of the black-figure style who worked in the mid-6th century BC. Was active. The painter got his emergency name from a vase that is inventoried in the Vatican Museums as Vatican 309 .
The painter from Vatican 309 worked in the vicinity of the much better known vase painter Lydos and was probably active in his workshop. However, he is considered a less good artist. He was only active for a relatively short time and is considered to be rather old-fashioned. He mainly painted neck amphoras . He shared with Lydos and other painters from his circle, such as the painter from Louvre F 6 , that he drew pictures of animals, but above all that he still depicted these animal pictures on large vases in Athens at that time .
