The Malkaridae are a family of real spiders from the superfamily of the Mimetoidea . The family comprises five genera and eleven species . (As of June 2016)
It was first described by Davies in 1980 . Their distribution area extends over Australia , Tasmania and New Zealand . It also occurs in Chile .
features
In terms of color, the Malkaridae species are characterized by an orange to dark red body, sometimes with a dark pattern in the middle. The oval abdomen ( abdomen ) has an epigastric groove on which the openings of the anterior book lungs sit. The openings of the entelegynous genitals are also located there . The female reproductive organs consist of a simple epigyne with one or two openings. The two spermatheks lying inside have a large distance from each other. The six spinnerets are located on the back underside of the abdomen . They are surrounded by a sclerotized ring. The colulus is either absent or large and sclerotized. While the rear pair of spinnerets consists of two segments, the middle one is very small. The front pair has a stridulation organ in the middle . The connection between the abdomen and the fore body, the so-called petiolus, is surrounded by a serrated and notched scutum . The subfamily Sternodinae has a small elevation on the oval carapace on which the eight eyes sit. In the subfamily Malkarinae , this area is flat. The slightly longer than wider sternum on the ventral side has the shape of a shield. The thin jaw claws ( Chelicere ) have no condyle laterally . While there are two to four teeth on the rear edge, there are only one to a maximum of two teeth on the front edge.
Systematics
External system
Phylogenetically , the Malkaridae are compared to the Mimetidae as sister taxons . This group from the two families is in turn regarded as the sister group of the Paurospinata . A cladogram down to the level of real spiders is shown below:
