The Malutang Dam is a shut-off on the River Panlong Jiang ( 盘龙江 ) in place Malutang ( 马鹿塘 ) of the circle Malipo in the Autonomous County Wenshan Zhuang and Miao of the Chinese province of Yunnan .

The main purpose of the dam is to generate electricity from hydropower . The power plant was built in two phases. Stage I consists of a 40 m high gravity dam , from which the water passed through a 3460 m long tunnel to a 100 MW power house. Construction of stage I began in 2002 and the first 50 MW generator, powered by a Francis turbine , was put into service in October 2004, the second in January 2005. Stage II was the construction of a 156 m high CFR dam (Malutang dam ) 200 m downstream of stage I. The power house of stage II contains three 100 MW generators, also driven by Francis turbines. Construction of Stage II began in August 2005 and the reservoir was flooded in October 2009. In December 2009 the first 100 MW generator was put into operation. The last two followed in May 2010.

The Malutang reservoir flooded the Stage I structure. The inlet tower of stage II, however, supplies the power plants of both stages with water, so that stage I can continue to work.
