Mammillaria tepexicensis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet tepexicensis means' (Nahuátl tepexic) from the cliff to the preferred habitat.

description

Mammillaria tepexicensis grows individually. The dark green shoots are spherical in shape and measure 2 to 3 centimeters in length and diameter. The warts are conical in shape. The axillae are bare. The 4 to 5  central spines , occasionally up to eight, are hooked, needle-like, yellow with a reddish brown tip and 4 to 6 millimeters long. The 27 to 30 radial spines are stiff to partly flexible, straight to slightly curved, white. They become 5 to 6 millimeters long.

The light pink colored flowers have a more or less strong pink-purple central stripe. They are up to 1.5 inches long and up to 1.5 inches in diameter. The fruits , firmly squeezed between the warts, are thin-walled, almost paper-like and dry. They are brownish and contain black seeds .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria tepexicensis is common in the Mexican state of Oaxaca .

The first description was in 1991 by Jorge Meyrán . Synonyms of Mammillaria tepexicensis J.Meyrán are Krainzia tepexicensis (J.Meyrán) Doweld (2000) and Mammillaria longiflora subsp. tepexicensis (J.Meyrán) J.Lüthy (2000).
