Mammoth (heraldic animal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pattern of the heraldic animal

The mammoth is a very rare heraldic animal . It often appears on the coat of arms when a skeleton or parts have been found in archaeological excavations in the vicinity.

It is depicted like an elephant with oversized curved tusks and sloping back. It is not penetrated by heraldry, but can be easily distinguished from the elephant in the coat of arms. The animal's skin is shown in a woolly shaggy shade of gray, deviations are to be mentioned in the description of the coat of arms. The main position is heraldically to the right . Often the right forefoot is raised.

The representation of the tusks is also possible, but difficult to distinguish from others (e.g. elephant teeth). Mammoth tusks are often used as reinforcement notwithstanding silver / white tinged and will then be blazon to mention.
