Manès Sperber Prize
The Manès-Sperber-Preis is a literary prize that was founded by the Republic of Austria in 1985 for outstanding literary achievements and is awarded every two to five years. Out of respect for his literary, psychological and socio-political work, the prize was named after the Franco-Austrian author Manès Sperber (1905–1984). The award is presented in cooperation with the Manès-Sperber-Gesellschaft . Today the Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport acts as a sponsor for the state .
As of 2015, the prize is endowed with 8,000 euros. The work to be awarded must either be in the original in German or in a representative form in German.
The prize was created on the initiative of Science Minister Heinz Fischer and Education Minister Helmut Zilk and was originally awarded by the arts section of the Federal Chancellery .
