The Manai Waterfall ( Japanese 真 名 井 の 滝 , Manai-no-taki ) is a waterfall on the Gokase River in Takachiho in Miyazaki Prefecture . It has a drop height of 17 m and is part of the list of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan drawn up by the Ministry of the Environment in 1990 . In summer, the area around the waterfall is illuminated until 10:00 p.m. A boat rental also makes it possible to row right up to the waterfall. Takachiho is an important place in Japanese mythology . The Amanoiwato Shrine , dedicated to Amaterasu , the most important Shinto goddess , is located nearby .
