List of top 100 waterfalls in Japan

The list of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan ( Japanese 日本 の 滝 百 選 , Nihon no taki hyakusen ) includes a selection of 100 exemplary waterfalls, representative of the large number of waterfalls in Japan , which were selected from 517 candidates in 1990 after a public tender from Environment Ministry with the support of the "Administrative Office for Forests and Fields" ( 林野 庁 , Rinyachō , English Forestry Agency ), a special office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries , was put together.

Legend

The list below can be sorted by name, location and height of fall. The order of the entries is carried out prefectural from north (Hokkaidō) to south (Okinawa).
The column "Name" contains the German name of the waterfall.
The Japanese name including the Hepburn transliteration is in the "Japanese" column.
If known, the height of fall and further details are noted under “Note”.
The “Coordinates” column shows the geographic location, the “Image” column shows an image.

Remarks

1. ↑ From 2005 until her death in 2010, a cat named Nora (real name: Aka) lived at a stall by the waterfall. It was almost as big a tourist attraction as the waterfall itself.

3. ↑ This waterfall is not to be confused with the waterfall of the same name in Fujinomiya , in Shizuoka Prefecture (drop height: 20 m). The waterfall in Fujinomiya is classified as a "natural monument" ( 天然 記念 物 , Tennen kinenbutsu ).
