Okinoshima ( Japanese 隠 岐 の 島 町 , - chō ) is a town in Oki County in the Japanese prefecture of Shimane .
geography
The community area mainly covers the area of the island Dōgo , which belongs to the Oki Islands . However, the Japanese administration also regards the Liancourt rocks , which are territorially disputed with South Korea, as part of this community.
history
Okinoshima was created on October 1, 2004 from the merger of the Chō Saigō ( 西 郷 町 , -chō ) with the Mura Fuse ( 布施 村 , -mura ), Goka ( 五 箇 村 , -mura ) and Tsuma ( 都 万 村 , -mura ) .
traffic
On the southeastern edge of the island there is Oki Airport , which offers regular flights to the main Japanese island.
The national road 485 runs through Okinoshima and continues on Honshu to Matsue .
education
In Okinoshima there are 13 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, each borne by the city, and 2 high schools run by the prefecture, the Oki High School ( 島 根 県 立 隠 岐 高等学校 , Shimane-kenritsu Oki kōtō gakkō ) and the Oki Fishing High School ( 島 根 県 立隠 岐 水産 高等学校 , Shimane-kenritsu Oki suisan kōtō gakkō ).
