Mandalgobi ( Mongolian Мандалговь ; also Mandalgov or Mandalgovi ) is a city in Mongolia. It is the capital of the Dund-Gobi Province with around 10,000 inhabitants . The city is located about 300 km south of the capital Ulaanbaatar .
Attractions
- In Mandalgobi, the Aimagmuseum, which consists of two sections, is worth a visit. In the ethnological part, a. old scroll paintings (thankas) exhibited, in the natural history part stuffed animals.
- In the city, Dashgimpeliin Khiid Monastery, currently inhabited by 30 monks, is also worth a visit. Like almost all of the 53 temples and monasteries of the Aimag, it was destroyed in 1937 and reopened in 1991.
- The temple Süm Khökh Burd, founded in the 10th century, is located 65 km northwest of Mandalgobi on the lake Sangiin Dalai Nuur. It is made of stones that can only be found 300 km away. Today it is a ruin.
- The Baga Gazryn Chuluu mountain range with rock paintings and caves is located about 80 km north-northwest of the city.
