Mandator was a Dutch speed and thrash metal band from Coevorden , which was founded in 1983 under the name Mysto Dysto and disbanded in 1994.

history

The band was founded in 1983 under the name Mysto Dysto, named after an effects pedal that received extremely bad reviews. The first local appearances followed before a first demo appeared in 1984 with Heavy Guys Don't Look Back . Demo followed in 1986 the debut album The Rules Have Been Disturbed . The edition of the sound carrier was limited to 500 copies. The following year the group recorded another demo called No Aids in Hell , which was sent to various labels. More than 1,000 copies of the demo were sold. The band was then represented in the Aardschok . The band was also voted the most hopeful Dutch band in April 1987 by readers of Aardschok and Dutch Metal Hammer . She also held other appearances. It was also featured in Vara's Vuurwerk , a radio show by Henk Westbroek . The German label became aware of the band, but asked the group to change its name. In Vara's Vuurwerk the fans could vote on the name, from which the name Mandator was finally chosen in 1986 or 1987.

Between June 2 and August 15, 1987, the band recorded the debut album Initial Velocity , which was then mixed in Stuttgart and was released in 1988. Its name was chosen again by the fans of Vara's Vuurwerk . Marcel Verdurmen took over the vocals as well as the electric guitar. In August and September 1989 the group recorded their next album, Perfect Progeny, in the Music Lab Berlin . On this album Claus Van Den Berg was replaced by Walter Tjwa. After a last demo in 1993 under the name Strangled , the band broke up in 1994. Disaster Records re-released both Mandator albums in 2001. Marcel Verdurmen would later join the Altar and Orphanage .

style

In his review of Initial Velocity , Götz Kühnemund stated that in a few years the group could compete with Thrash Metal bands like Exodus and Testament . He also called them Holland's best speed metal group. In his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 2: The Eighties, Martin Popoff described the music on Mysto Dysto's album The Rules Have Been Disturbed as a sophisticated mix of speed and thrash metal. Popoff further described in his book that Initial Velocity is Thrash Metal, which could have some surprises. He found the singing rough.
