The Mandelsloh feud was a conflict between the noble family von Mandelsloh with their three brothers Dietrich (later one of the chairmen of the Lüneburg Sate ), Heineke and Statius against the archbishopric and city of Bremen , which was led from 1380 to 1381.

background

This feud was about economic issues. Due to the disastrous financial situation of Archbishop Albert II of Bremen, he pledged Langwedel Castle several times. Money obtained from this pledge also came from the three brothers from Mandelsloh, among others. These had their headquarters in the village of Mandelsloh on the Leine .

The following history belongs to the feud: As early as the 1370s, one of the dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg wanted to secure the backing of Hanover and, according to older research and the sources, promised the city council to build a continuous waterway between Hanover and the mouth of the Weser wanting to support.

course

The von Mandelsloh brothers attacked the Achim office and the bailiwick and Langwedel castle from Drakenburg (near Nienburg / Weser), and were able to occupy and plunder them. From Thedinghausen , the people of Bremen intervened under the leadership of Friedrich Schulte, and pursued the Mandelslohs and their false helpers to a hedge near Blender, where a brief skirmish ensued. This ended with the capture of some Bremen councilors, including the later source author Johann Hemeling the Younger .

The people of Bremen, probably influenced by Duke Albrecht von Sachsen , who was injured in an attack on Dietrich von Mandelsloh in Ricklingen in 1385 (and died a short time later from the consequences), armored against the Mandelslohs and there were several military actions that continued up to Walsrode and far into the Archbishopric of Bremen. Almost all of the support that von Mandelsloh had in the ore monastery was removed.

The feud ended in an atonement in 1381 .
