history

Mandelsloh is a very old place, where the legendary church was founded as early as 880 by the sister of the Burgundian Duke Osdag. Osdag (Ostdach, Osdacus), Duke of Burgundy, saint and patron saint of the church in Mandelsloh, according to a story by the chronicler Hermann von Lerbeck (around 1400), was killed on February 2, 880 in the battle of Ebstorf , which the Ebstorf martyrs left behind be. He is said to have been buried in Mandelsloh afterwards.

According to the medieval chronicle, a church had existed in the district of “In der Wiek” since the end of the 9th century. Mandelsloh was the seat of a go court, an archdeaconate and a manor. The first written mention is under the name Mandeslum for the year 988. In 1167, Heinricus de Mandeslo , the noble family of Mandelsloh from this place, was first mentioned in a document. Around 1393 a monastery with nine priests was established in the village.

Still very unusual for the time, a lightning rod was installed on the Osdag church between 1782 and 1784.

Mandelsloh originally consisted of the two communities Mandelsloh in the Wiek and Mandelsloh above the lake , which were merged in 1959 to form the community Mandelsloh. On March 1, 1974, the Mandelsloh community was incorporated into the town of Neustadt am Rübenberge.
