Schneeren is a district of the town of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony .
geography
Schneeren is about ten kilometers west of Neustadt, between the Grinderwald in the north and the Steinhuder Meer in the south. The B 6 from Hanover to Bremen runs about three kilometers north of the village. The place is located on a hilly ridge in the area of the Hanoverian Moorgeest .
The village is dominated by agriculture, but there are also craft businesses based in the village.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1215 in a document from the Count of Wölpe as "in Snedere". The name Snedere was described differently in later documents, such as Snederen [1280], Schnedere [1307], Snedern [1320].
According to a legend, the first Schneeren settlement is said to have been located about three kilometers southeast of today's village center, near the current waterworks . A plant species grew there that was then used to border paths. In Low German during the Middle Ages , snedere meant something like cutting edge, border. However, this can also indicate the location on the edge of a moor area . Another theory says that due to the barren soil, the residents had to tighten their belts. The name comes from the Low German "sneren", which means to lace up in High German.
With a certificate issued to Drakenburg on December 27, 1280, Count Burchard von Wölpe (1257–1289) donated the tithe and all Neubrüche zu Schneeren to the Mariensee Monastery .
In 1522 Mardorf came to the church parish Schneeren (which until then had been near Husum ). When the Rehburg office was divided in 1856, Mardorf and Schneeren came to the Neustadt am Rübenberge office .
During the Thirty Years' War the village burned down; however, was rebuilt in the same place.
Due to the regional reform, Schneeren became a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge on March 1, 1974.

coat of arms
The design of the municipal coat of arms of Schneeren comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was granted by the district president in Hanover on April 1, 1964.
Blazon : " Divided , above in gold a running, courting , black black grouse , below in green four silver windmill blades , whichcovertwo stalked, golden acorn leaves in the corners ,a golden acorn between the two upper wings ." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: Due to the extensive moorland areas in the Schneeren district, the black grouse, which has already died out in many places, is a special attraction for hunters and hunters. The mill wings contained in the coat of arms are also a symbol of the windmills that were frequent here in earlier years. Even today, one of them is still preserved in its original form, as this mill was expanded inside as an apartment and there is hope that this mill will be preserved. The oak leaves embody the oak grove in the center of the village, which has been under landscape protection since 1982. |
Culture and sights
Buildings
- The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Schneeren was built in 1724 as a rectangular hall church. The 27 m high church tower was only built at the beginning of the 20th century, as a lightning strike destroyed the old tower. In 2003 the church was renovated and the cross on the church was replaced. The old cross is now behind the church. The parish belongs to the central region of the Neustadt-Wunstorf parish .
- The Catholic St. Martin Church was built in 1969 opposite the village pond. In 2009 it was profaned and later demolished.

Green spaces and recreation
In the center of the village there is a piece of wood called Brink, in which there is a lake, the Queemoor. The forest is already shown on maps from the 18th century, but as a result of a fire in 1874 it was completely cut down, so that the current tree population is almost 150 years old.
