Basse is a northern district of the city of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony .

The village lies directly in a turn of the Leine and is connected to the center of the city via the L193.

The village of Scharnhorst belongs to Basse, formerly known for a domain estate and a windmill. a. as the seat of a branch office of the Bundessortenamt .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document around the year 990 under the name Basse. Around 1100 the Counts of Wölpe founded a church in the village. In 1215, the Counts of Dassel gave the Mariensee Monastery a hoof in Basse. In the same year, Count Bernhard II von Wölpe transferred the local church to this monastery. Basse came to the Principality of Lüneburg in 1302 . From 1314 the jurisdiction of the place Basse is mentioned in a document; Presumably there was a Thing Square here in pre-Christian times . In 1428 Basse came to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . The privilege to use wood, granted in 1413, was confirmed by Duke Erich I in 1502; his wife ordered the Reformation in Basse in 1543 .

In 1610 there were 23 farms in the village, including six Meier farms and four Halbmeier farms. In particular, the von Mandelsloh family , the Mariensee monastery and the office in Neustadt received tenth deliveries . In 1757 the line was straightened near the village, which made a ferry service necessary. In 1810 the place became part of the Aller department . In 1830 grain was imported from Russia because of a bad harvest. In 1846 48 residents died of dysentery . For the year 1848 55 buildings with 342 inhabitants are recorded for the place. The rectory was built in 1850 in place of previous buildings. To replace the ferry service, a wooden bridge was built over the Leine in 1924, which was replaced by a stone one in 1938. After the Wehrmacht had blown it up in 1945, ferry operations were resumed until the new Leine Bridge was built in 1963. A memorial for victims of the world wars was established in 1955 by redesigning the bridal house at the church. The cemetery chapel was consecrated in 1964.

With the territorial reform, the municipality of Basse lost its political independence on March 1, 1974 and became a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge. The school, which was only built in 1955, was closed again in 1980.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms of Basse, introduced in 1985, shows a horn from the coat of arms of the Counts of Wölpe and below it the Romanesque baptismal font, the oldest stone carving in the village. It is intended to commemorate the early founding of the church in Basse. The bar / river represented with a large arch symbolizes the position of fields and pastures on both sides of the line.

Simon and Jude Church

Buildings

  • The Simon and Jude Church was built in the 11th century by the Counts of Wölpe in the Romanesque style. After the destruction of the Thirty Years' War, the nave had to be rebuilt in 1688, with Gothic elements. A bridal house was also added. The ceiling in the choir shows biblical representations in grisaille technique . In 1865 the church got an organ. In 1878 the nave was renovated. The tower was renovated in 1891 and 1998.
