Bordenau is a southern district of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region , Lower Saxony ( Germany ). Bordenau is the most populous district of the city of Neustadt am Rübenberge with around 2800 inhabitants .

geography

Bordenau is a rural place of residence that has a village character and is located about five kilometers south of the core town of Neustadt am Rübenberge. The Steinhuder Meer is around ten kilometers west of the village, and Hanover is around 20 kilometers south-east .

Bordenau lies below the confluence of the Westaue with the Leine and is touched to the west by the strongly meandering river. The village is protected from the floods of the Leine by a dike.

To the north of the town is the u. a. Bordenauer See used as a bathing lake .

history

The first known mention of the place was in the year 889 in a document from King Arnulf of Carinthia for the Corvey monastery . This makes Bordenau the oldest part of today's city of Neustadt.

In 1539 Duke Erich I von Calenberg elevated the former chapel to a parish church. Today's St. Thomas Church was built in 1717 by inserting parts of the old chapel into the new structure.

On November 12, 1755, the Prussian general and army reformer of the Wars of Liberation Gerhard von Scharnhorst was born in Bordenau .

On 8./9. In February 1946, the Leine flood reached its historic high of 7.01 meters compared to a normal level of 2.75 meters. The dike broke and large parts of the village were under water.

The census of September 13, 1950 showed that there were 1450 inhabitants in 420 households in the village.

On March 1, 1974 Bordenau was incorporated into the city of Neustadt am Rübenberge.

From 1987 to 1991 Bordenau was part of the urban development of the village (model project of experimental housing and urban development of the federal and state governments). In this context, Bordenauer citizens founded the 'Village Development Working Group' and several concepts were drawn up for the future of the urban settlement structure.

One result of this model project is, among other things , the village community center , which makes a decisive contribution to the liveliness of village life. The building was partly built in-house and is administered by the village. It is available for private celebrations as well as for club-sponsored or self-organized and cultural events.

In 1991 Bordenau introduced a design statute for all parts and for the newest building area in the village. A tree protection statute existed for the place until 2016 .

Foundation of the coat of arms: On November 12, 1755, the future General Gerhard von Scharnhorst was born in Bordenau . The council of the municipality decided to adopt the coat of arms of the von Scharnhorst family as a symbol of the village. The family of the great army commander gave their express permission for this.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • The current building of the listed St. Thomas Church was built in 1717. A coat of arms of the founder Christian Wilhelm von Kampen is placed above the western entrance . The church square around the church was redesigned so that it became a public square. Among other things, it is used for the Christmas market on the first Sunday in Advent.
  • The listed Lübbertsche House from 1770 on Bäckerstraße is the oldest farmhouse in Bordenau. As part of the model project for urban village renewal, the Lübbertsche Haus was saved from deterioration and renovated. Today it is a residential building.
  • The house where Gerhard von Scharnhorst was born is indicated by a monument in front of the entrance to the Scharnhorst estate, where the general's house is located.
