Vesbeck is a village in the Hanover region , Lower Saxony , and has been a northern district of Neustadt am Rübenberge since 1974 .

geography

The district of Vesbeck covers an area of around 700 hectares, which is mainly used for livestock and arable farming. Larger areas are under nature and landscape protection; Particularly noteworthy is the Blankes Flat moor .

The Große Beeke in the north of the village and the Schiebecksgraben in the south form tributaries to the Leine in the west .

history

Archaeological finds document that the Vesbeck area as early as the Younger Bronze Age around 700 BC. Was settled by a rural population. The first known written mention of the place can be found in a document from Herford Abbey from the end of the 12th century. At that time, four farms in Vesbeck ( Vestbiki ) were part of the Herford village Estorf near Nienburg . The Minden Cathedral Chapter was entitled to tithe levies from 1260 at the latest .

A first complete picture of the farm situation in Vesbeck is provided by a list from 1584. In addition to a mill, 26 farmsteads are described, eight Meier , ten Kötner and eight Brinkitzerhöfe . The diet capable v. Bothmersche Gut is listed under the Meierhöfe. In the previous year, i.e. 1583, the farmer who ran this farm had been cut off because Statius v. Bothmer had sued for personal use. Probably the most important later landowner is Georg Christian v. Bothmer (1695–1766), who played an important role as land rent master, court judge and district administrator in the powerful representation of the estates, the Calenberg landscape . The last representative of the family v. Bothmer in Vesbeck, Caspar Ludwig, died in 1848; he bequeathed his heavily indebted Vesbeck property to his administrator and children of his hunter. The manor house was demolished a few years later.

There were two particularly important events in the village's history:

  • The devastation of the Thirty Years' War in connection with the sieges of Neustadt am Rübenberge and Nienburg between 1625 and 1627 largely destroyed 11 of 26 farms. Need and poverty prevailed on at least four other farms. The reconstruction took several decades.
  • During the agrarian reform in the Kingdom of Hanover around 1830, the peasants were freed from manual and tension services . They became the landlords of the land they cultivated. At that time there were 32 farms in Vesbeck, including the v. Bothmersche Gut, seven Meier and Halbmeier farms as well as a number of (according to the chronology of their creation) Kötner , Brinksitzer and cultivation sites . In the middle of the 19th century, however, almost half of the village residents belonged to the landless, sub-peasant class of the housewife families , a significant part of which migrated to nearby cities with emerging industries, Hanover and Neustadt, in the course of the following decades.

In the 20th century, the farming village , which was characterized by the cultivation of grain and cattle, increasingly turned into a residential area. The construction of a motorway through the district , planned in the 1930s, was abandoned.

On March 1, 1974, Vesbeck was incorporated into the town of Neustadt am Rübenberge.
