Location of Borstel in Lower Saxony |
Borstel is a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The place is about twelve kilometers north of the core city of Neustadt.
geography
Borstel is situated on the edge of the Grinderwald, in the hilly part of Neustadt. It is framed by elevations from the south and west, which bear names of mountains: Eckberg, Hüttenberg, Lichtenberg, Rackerberg and Landratsberg.
Borstel is therefore not in a valley, because the Grevelingsberg rises directly in the village, the name of which was rediscovered on a drawing from 1774.
The railway divides Borstel into two parts. The railway line has been lowered and is spanned by two bridges.
history
Otto I appointed Margrave Hermann Billung as his deputy in Saxony . The Billunger clan was rich in goods and possessed the feudal rule of many monasteries and churches. She provided two bishops in the Diocese of Verden and had the Erps or Erponen family as relatives . The Billunger managed to get Margrave Albertus Erp of Bremen to become bishop in Verden in 976 AD.
The Erponen family made Borstel "acceptable". The Erpones are probably upstart from the lower Saxon nobility. Her name appears scattered in donation and legal deeds that confirm her as counts in Leinegau and Grindergau. There are several lines of the Erps, but they all have contact with the Billungers and therefore also with churches and dioceses.
The year 1240 is the year of birth of the place name Erpingeborstold . A certificate documents that Borstel must have consisted of several houses at that time.
In 1974 the municipality of Borstel became part of the town of Neustadt a. Rbge. incorporated. There are still independent associations: interested parties, forestry cooperative, hunting cooperative, volunteer fire brigade, rifle club, warrior comradeship, mixed choir, music lovers, village community club.
- Military history
From 1967 was in the Grinderwald at 106 m above sea level. NHN high Hüttenberg 2 km southwest of the village, a military facility of the Dutch army with mobile Hawk - aircraft missiles . Access was via a 2.7 km long road from federal highway 6 running south . After the end of the Cold War , the position was given up and the unit withdrew in 1994. When the federal highway 6 was expanded in 2006, the site served as a compensation area and was renatured.
