Herbert Voss

Herbert Voß (born November 23, 1949 in Borstel , today a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge ) is a German engineer and specialist book author .

Life

Herbert Voss was born in Borstel near Hanover. At the age of 4 he came to Wolfsburg , where his father worked in the Volkswagen factory. When the Volkswagen factory in Hanover opened in 1956 , the family moved to Hanover . After secondary school, Voss learned the profession of high-voltage electrician . After his journeyman's examination, he began to study electrical engineering in Hanover. He later moved to the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Berlin , where he graduated as an engineer in 1973 . He then completed a degree in power electronics at the Technical University of Berlin in 1975 as a graduate engineer . Voss worked as a development engineer in the automotive industry, with a focus on the theory of power electronic circuits for electrical vehicle drives. With a dissertation on commutation processes in DC converters , the Technical University of Berlin earned him a doctorate in 1978 . He then worked for a year in the development of electrical drive systems for railways.

Then Voss worked as a high school teacher for computer science, mathematics and physics at the Canisius College in Berlin . In 1986 he became director of studies . Since 2003 he has been a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin .

Voss has been working with electronic computing technology since the 1970s. After he came into contact with the free typesetting system TeX for the first time in 1995 , he carried out various projects in connection with text and graphics. He further developed the macro collection PSTricks and published numerous books on the use of LaTeX . Voss is deputy chairman of the German-speaking user association TeX (DANTE).

Herbert Voss has been a member of the lawless society in Berlin since 1995 , and has been its 22nd custodian (chairman) since 2002.
