Metel is a northeastern district of the city of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony .

geography

The village of Metel is located south of the Leine directly on the K 315.

history

First mentions, under the name Met (h) telen , can be found for the year 1313 in documents of the Loccum monastery . I.a. Metel and Scharrel are mentioned together as 'Dörfer an der Lindenburg'.

A list from 1543 gives the oldest news of a chapel. At the end of the 16th century there were 5 Meier farms and 13 Kötner farms. The farms were partly due to the sovereign, partly to the churches in Basse , in Mandelsloh , the Mariensee monastery , the chapel in Metel and partly to the local nobility in Poggenhagen (v. Campe (n)). The Thirty Years' War , particularly as a result of the siege of Neustadt by Tilly's troops, led to severe devastation.

Schooling was given in Metel since the 17th century; In 1806 the old shepherd's house was converted into a school house. The coupling took place in 1832. Around 1940, around 170 people lived in 37 residential buildings in Metel.

The district Metel included about 825 hectares, of which about 195 hectares of farmland.

With the regional reform, the municipality of Metel lost its political independence on March 1, 1974 and became a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge.
