The unpaved national road EN8 (Malawi – Mandimba – Nampula) runs through the village . The EN13 national road, which is also unpaved, leads to Lichinga . Despite promises by the central government, the roads have not yet been paved.

economy

As in large parts of Mozambique, Marracuene is mainly characterized by subsistence agriculture . The most important branches of the economy are agriculture, especially the cultivation of maize and tobacco, as well as tourism. The latter is mainly due to the border traffic and the long travel routes between Nampula and Lichinga.

In the small town itself there are informal markets as well as some shops, including a bank branch of Millenium Bim .

politics

Seat of the administration of the Mandimba district

In the course of Mozambique's efforts to decentralize, the central government began to create so-called munizipe ( municípios ) in the 1990s . The central government created the municipality of Mandimba in 2013. In connection with this, the population of the city received the right to elect the city council ( concelho municipal ) themselves. In all local elections since 2013, the ruling party FRELIMO has won the local elections in Mandimba.

In addition to its own city administration, Mandimba also houses the organs of the district administration.
