Eugenie Trützschler (also Eugenie Trützschler von Falkenstein , *  1950 in Prague ), b. Fügner (Fügnerová), is a Czech-German political scientist , teacher , civil servant and writer .

Life

After emigrating with her mother to Germany in 1967, she passed her exams as a state-approved nurse and graduated from high school in 1972. In 1974 she passed her first teaching examination with a focus on German and history and in 1976 her diploma in political science at the University of Munich with the thesis Federalism in the Czechoslovak Socialist Constitution in comparison with the constitution of the People's Republic of Yugoslavia . She received her doctorate in 1982 for Dr. phil. with a work on the subject of the struggle of the Czechs for the historical rights of the Bohemian crown in the mirror of the press 1861–1879 .

In it, she describes the public discussions about the constitutional demands of the Czech bourgeois politicians and the Czech-minded conservative nobility in Bohemia after the end of neo-absolutism in 1859 until the Czechs returned to the Vienna Imperial Council , from which they resigned in 1863. Analogous to the attempts at autonomy in other regions of the Habsburg Monarchy , in the 19th century a German-Bohemian balance between the majority of the Czechs and the German-speaking minority in the countries of the Bohemian Crown was sought within the Austrian half of Austria-Hungary .

In 1983 the second teacher examination followed. She then worked in the Bavarian school service until 1992 with a focus on German for foreigners, and from 1991–1992 advanced training on German as a second language with Turkish. From 1979 to 1992 Trützschler was a teacher in Bavaria. From 1992 until her retirement in 2013 she worked in the Thuringian civil service, most recently at the Ettersberg Foundation in Weimar . Since 1992 she has been teaching at the TU Ilmenau and at the University of Prague . In 2018 she was elected a member of the PEN Center for German-Speaking Authors Abroad .

The main focus of her work as a university lecturer is questions of constitutional law relating to the eastward expansion of the EU and questions of Europe's minorities . In her further research and publications she deals with the living conditions on the border between the GDR and Czechoslovakia , with the role of the regions within the European Union and with the position of women in a united Europe.

She is also the author of novels with a contemporary political background.

Eugenie Trützschler lives with her husband in Thuringia , they have two grown children.

I think it's not that easy with identity. And that's why I think it's important to work out the similarities between the nations and not what divides them. "
