Manel Valdivieso

Manel Valdivieso (* 1967 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan orchestral conductor.

life and work

Manel Valdivieso studied music at the Escolania de Montserrat and at the municipal conservatories in Barcelona and Badalona. He completed his studies in music analysis with Benet Casablancas and in conducting with Antoni Ros i Marbà .

He directed the most important Spanish symphony orchestras (La Coruña, Granada, Tenerife, Madrid (Nacional, Sinfónica i RTVE), Bilbao, Castilla y León, Santiago de Compostela, Córdoba, Seville, Principado de Asturias, Málaga and the Balearic Islands). At the same time he built a successful opera career. This brought him opera appearances as orchestra conductor at the Gran Teatre del Liceu , at the Teatro Real de Madrid , at the Korean National Opera in Seoul and at the Opera of Washington, DC He performed operas such as L'Elisir d'Amore , The Barber of Seville , Carmen , Lucia di Lammermoor , Il Trittico , Madame Butterfly , Il Trovatore , Turandot , Tosca , The Turn of the Screw and others. In his last projects he worked with the HR-Symphonie-Orchester Frankfurt, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga and the Orchester de Chambre de Geneve , among others .

Valdivieso has recorded works by contemporary composers in various projects for the Harmonia Mundi , Naxos , TV3 Catalunya Música and Columna Música labels .

From 2010 to 2013 Valdivieso was director of the Orchester der Musikene , the music academy of the Basque Country. He currently heads the Direcció d'Orquestra (orchestral conducting) chair at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona and has been the musical director of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC), the Catalan youth orchestra , since 2001 . Since 2014 he has also been head of the orchestra and ensembles department at the Conservatori del Liceu . In this role he created numerous orchestral and opera productions with the orchestra of the conservatory.
