Manfred Boltze

Manfred Boltze (born September 5, 1957 in Hanover ) is a German civil engineer and professor. He heads the Institute for Transport Planning and Technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

He is married and has two children.

Professional activities

Manfred Boltze began his academic career in 1978 with a degree in civil engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, which he graduated with a diploma in November 1984. There he did his doctorate in 1988 with the topic of optimizing cycle times in traffic light control for road networks . In 1997 he took up the professorship for traffic planning and traffic engineering and has been head of the institute ever since. He has made over 190 publications so far. He leads third-party funded projects worth 6 million euros.

He has been a member of the Advisory Board "Joint International Research Laboratory of Transportation Safety" at Tongji University in Shanghai (China) since 2017. He has been a member of the Steering Committee of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) since 2010 and is in in this function also member of the Editorial Board for the WCTRS Book Series on Transportion Research (since 2016). As Topic Area Manager “Traffic Operations, Management, and Control” he was involved in the preparation for the WCTR 2013 in Rio and as Chairman for the preparation of the WCTR 2016 in Shanghai. He is [obsolete] a member of the preparations for the WCTR 2019 in Mumbai.

He is also active at the heureka foundation for the environment and mobility .

  • 2009–2014 Director of the Transport Research Center at VGU in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  • 2005–2012 Technology Commissioner for the State of Hesse in the field of "Mobility and Traffic"
  • 1999–2007 head of the working committee "traffic control in urban areas" of the Research Association for Roads and Transport (FGSV), u. a. also responsible for updating the German " Guidelines for traffic light systems (RiLSA)".
  • 1997–2005 Head of the Working Committee "Decision-making and Optimization Methods" (FGSV)
  • 1999, 2002 and 2005 Scientific director of the "Heureka" conference in Karlsruhe.

Awards

  • 2017 Medal "For the Cause of Education", awarded by the Vietnamese Minister of Education
  • 2014 Medal "For Significant Contributions to the Transport Development of Vietnam" by the Vietnamese Minister of Transport
  • 2014 Badge of Honor “As thanks and recognition for long and meritorious work in the working groups and working committees” of the FGSV
  • 1989 Awarded the Max-Erich-Feuchtinger / Bruno-Wehner-Denkmünze, by the FGSV "for excellent scientific achievements as well as practical work in the field of planning, design and operation of city and country roads"
