Manfred Kany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Kany (* 1922 ; † 2011 ) was a German civil engineer specializing in geotechnical engineering. For many years he was head of the foundation engineering institute of the state trade institute in Nuremberg.

Kany received his doctorate in Darmstadt in 1954 (contribution to the calculation of foundations on a flexible base) and has been at the LGA Nuremberg since it was founded in 1955, where he was senior construction director in the 1980s. Kany had the title of professor.

He dealt in particular with shallow foundations and their numerical calculation. For this purpose, he developed programs (Geotec) at the LGA, also for other geotechnical problems (such as the stability of embankments).

In 1979 he was the founder and until 1998 head of the German expert committee “Soil Mechanics, Earthworks and Foundation Works” (today “Earthworks, Foundation Works, Rock Construction”), based at the IHK Nürnberg.

Kany was a member of the DGGT working groups for safety and calculation methods.
