Foundation paperback

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The foundations Paperback is a manual of Geotechnical Engineering , which in & Verlag Ernst son ( Berlin appears) and holds a leading position in Germany. Leading geotechnicians mainly from German-speaking countries collaborated on the manual, which was edited again and again with changing authors, and which appeared in its 8th edition and in three volumes in 2018. For example in the 1966 edition Ulrich Smoltczyk (shallow foundations), Hans Lorenz (soil dynamics), Edgar Schultze (stability, pressure distribution, subsidence), Heinz Muhs (subsoil investigation), Richard Jelinek (soil properties), Heinz Graßhoff (calculation of elastic surface foundations ), Erich Lackner (sheet pile walls), Wolfram Schenck (piles, ramming and pulling), Hermann Blum (coffer dams), Manfred Kany (electronic calculations), Alfred Streck (earth pressure and earth resistance), Carl Rappert (drainage), Josef Stini (mountain geology ). Other authors were, for example, Anton Weißenbach (construction pits), Eberhard Franke (piles), Hans-Ludwig Jessberger (ground freezing), Helmut Ostermayer (grouted anchors), Heinz Brandl (constructive slope stabilization), Gerd Gudehus (earth pressure, material laws), Walter Wittke (rock mechanics ), Klaus Weiß (soil investigation in the field), Paul von Soos (soil properties, laboratory tests).

The first edition appeared in 1955 (edited by Hans Schröder), the second edition in 1966, the third edition in three volumes from 1980, the fourth in 1992, the fifth in 1996, the sixth in 2001 and the seventh in 2009. An English-language edition was published in 2003 .

Up to the 6th edition in 2001 it was edited by Smoltczyk, who was already involved in the 2nd edition as co-editor. From the 7th edition the paperback by Karl Josef Witt will be published.

The first volume of the 8th edition of 2018 deals with geotechnical basics , volume 2 geotechnical processes , volume 3 foundations and geotechnical structures .

For the 8th edition: ISBN 978-3-433-03154-4

Author of several soil mechanics and foundation engineering textbooks, for example with Peter Siedek, Georg Kübler Erd- und Grundbau , 4 volumes, Werner Verlag 1965, with Peter Siedek, Floß Handbuch Erd- und Grundbau , 2 volumes, 1982, with Wilhelm Loos Kleine Baustundlehre , 1955 , 1963

  3. Blum received his doctorate in 1930 at the Technical University of Braunschweig (clamping ratios of scaffolding), where he developed a very widespread constructional design method for sheet pile walls. Later he was at Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion or Hoesch AG in Dortmund, the leading German sheet pile wall manufacturer, which also had a static calculation department.
  4. He did his doctorate in 1954 at the TH Darmstadt and then went to the Landesgewerbeanstalt in Nuremberg, where he developed extensive geotechnical software in the 1960s and was the chief construction director. In 1959 and in two volumes in 1974 his calculation of land foundations was published by Ernst and Son.
  5. Managing Director at Keller Grundbau and a leading specialist in lowering the groundwater. He edited the article by H. Weber from the first edition in 1955. The Carl Rappert Basic Construction Prize for young engineers of the DGGT is named after him, awarded since 1986 (and donated by Keller).
