Karl Josef Witt

Karl Josef Witt (born May 23, 1951 in Bühl (Baden) ) is a German civil engineer for foundation engineering and soil mechanics and professor at the Bauhaus University Weimar .

Witt started his tiler apprenticeship in his father's business and studied civil engineering (specialization in soil mechanics and foundation engineering) at the TH Karlsruhe from 1973 to 1979 . After graduating, he worked as a scientific employee at the Institute for Soil Mechanics and Rock Mechanics under Gerd Gudehus and received his doctorate in 1986 under Josef Brauns . After completing his doctorate, he worked at the Björnsen engineering office in Koblenz and in 1990 became a partner in Hans Kusenbach's earthworks laboratory in Koblenz (then Kusenbach + Witt and later Witt & Jehle Geotechnik). In 1998 he became a professor at the Bauhaus University Weimar. In 2007 he founded an engineering office Witt + Partner in Weimar and Hanover.

He deals a lot with environmental geotechnics and was chairman of the geotechnical working group of the landfill structures of the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT). From 2011 to 2014 he was deputy head of the environmental geotechnical engineering section of the DGGT. In addition to landfill construction, he deals with internal erosion, hydraulic ground breaking, embankment protection, soil improvement and safety in earthworks and foundation engineering.

In 2010 he became deputy chairman of the DGGT. His voluntary activities also include his commitment to the ITVA .

As the successor to Ulrich Smoltczyk, he is the editor of the 7th edition of the Grundbau-Taschenbuch .
