history

The north side of the Mühlbach Buckau

Several water mills have been built along the Buckau River since the Middle Ages . The Fiener Bruch is a wetland formed by the Ice Age through which the Buckau flows. The Viesener Mühle was built in the quarry, which has been used for agriculture since it was drained . In 1785 a water mill powered by the river was described near the village of Viesen. The mill operated until 1940. Then the mill was stopped and the water wheel and technology dismantled. The barrage and the old mill building were preserved. In contrast to other Buckau mills, which were converted into small hydropower plants , this did not take place at the Viesener Mühle.
